The True Value of Couples Counseling

Executive summary about couples counseling by Morgan Hamilton

Couples usually turn to couples counseling when they feel that their relationship is in deep trouble. Some experts think that this might be the very best time for a couple to go through counseling.

However, you may be in for a shock if you get couples counseling before you get married. You will learn things about your spouse that you never knew before when you go through it. Couples counseling deal with the big issues that are known to bust up a good marriage. The issue of having children is one of the things you need to talk about in couples counseling. This way you and your spouse can work on it and make a decision on the issue of having offspring and other important issues.

You will also be able to understand how your partner views money and spending through couples counseling. You are going to have huge problems in your marriage if you have vastly different ideas about what you want to do with money. You should never marry if the relationship has any flaws that you can’t live with for the rest of your life. Couples counseling will help you decide what those flaws are and if you can live with them.

You might still benefit from couples counseling before getting married, even if you think that you are perfect match.

How Couples Counseling Can Help Save a Marriage

Executive summary about couples counseling by Tammy Stoner

In one last effort you seek couples counseling, hoping that you can salvage the marriage. Can it help? Will it help? How will it help us with this problem? Each of you entered this marriage as unique human beings, bringing sole backgrounds, and life experiences. You have tried to “fix” the problem with common sense, and logic, and seem to only have compounded the problem. In a last ditch effort, you decide to try the irrational, and illogical approach through seeking the help of a marriage counselor, hoping but not really “believing” it can work. You are seeking help for something you don’t believe can be changed.

Paradoxically, this is the first step towards change, as you are seeking a different solution. A couple counselor is trained to look at the problem from a new perspective, in order to create change. There are many tips and tools that can be utilized to help create this change. Anybody can be unhappy, but to make someone unhappy needs to be learned. In the language game just presented, symptoms are prescribed, a double bind created, in an effort to create the desired change. It is this vast wealth of knowledge, that expands your problem solving ability, so that each partner can view a new, and “real” reality.
